Sail Sail Away! On our Mexican Cruise - October 8-11
Mark your calendars for the weekend of October 8 - 11 for a fantastic 3 day cruise to Mexico aboard Carnival Cruise Lines. Fellow Arribans who have gone on our past trip had a wonderful time aboard The Royal Caribbean Line but Carnival offers state rooms that are much, much bigger with large picture windows instead of tiny portholes. The ship departs promptly at 5:30 on Friday, Oct. 8, but you can check in earlier and enjoy an afternoon aboard the ship and get in a few rays before we leave.
We travel to Ensenada where you may get off the boat for a variety of on shore activities: ATV adventures, horseback riding, authentic Mexican cooking, blow hole tour via kayak, wine tasting and many more to choose from. These excursions are extra and range from about $22.00 to over a hundred. Or, you may walk into the city and enjoy many fine restaurants. You like you may remain on board and enjoy the many activities provided by the Carnival staff poolside your choice.
The food is outstanding, the service is great and other activities are fun. It is great weekend escape with good friends The price is around $480.00 which includes the cost of the cruise (double occupancy) in an ocean view stateroom. Suites are extra but this includes all the food, taxes and fees and the two tips (one for the dining service and the other is for your stateroom attendant.
Keep in mind, we return on early Monday, (October 11) at 7am. If you arrange an early checkout you will NOT miss any work. We have been on this trip and the weekend get-away feels like you have vacationed for a week.
You must send in a $100.00 per person deposit to reserve your stateroom by July 1st. This is open to your non-Arriban friends for an additional $15.00 (or become a member for $40).

Movie Night - "American Graffiti" - June 9
Arriba night at downtown's beautiful Orpheum Theater. This is a fundraiser for the Conservancy - a series of classic movies shown during the summer in LA's historic movie palaces on Broadway.
The movie was "American Graffiti" (Where were you in '62?), showing at the Orpheum . We met at Clifton's Cafeteria on Broadway for dinner before the movie.
Yosemite 2010 -- June 3 - 6
Arriba's annual trip to Yosemite in the spring is the perfect time to go as crowds are down and waterfalls and wildflowers are at their peak. This was a great year, as the Sierra has had abundant snowfall.
Eagles at Hollywood Bowl
On Friday, April 16th - Sixteen Arribans’ and their friends made their way to the sold out Hollywood Bowl for a fantastic night of Eagles music. Barb and Myra arrived two-hours early to find a table for the group, but the place was already packed with tailgaters’. Fortunately a couple from Palmdale shared their table with us.
Laurie and Dale, the Palmdale couple soon, had their eyes bugging out as they watched us arrive and unpack the food and wine. We dined on fried chicken tenders, a wonderful salad from Lyn and Terry and Pam S. Curtis and Kelly brought delicious Korean ribs and Brian provided the most beautiful looking and tasty strawberry and almond cheesecake. (He has already been urged to bring it to the end of the year party) Tri arrived just in time for dessert and brought a couple of ice cream cakes, much to our delight. Tables around us gathered as they feasted on our leftovers.
We soon made our way to our seats and, as Don Henley put it, enjoyed a "balmy Friday night in Los Angeles." They played for over three and a half hours including a one half hour encore of their greatest hits of the seventies and their newer stuff from their "The Long Road out of Eden" CD.
This concert was sold out with over 30,000 people at the Bowl but don't fret if you missed it; they have just announced a new date due to the tremendous demand for tickets. Whooo Hoooooo – They rocked.
Naples Electric Boat Tour - December 20
Arriba had our second annual electric boat tour through the canals of Naples near Long Beach on Sunday December 20th. Last year's event was such a great hit we were urged to make it an annual event. Everyone is asked to bring his or her favorite bottle of wine or beverage of choice. Food for the party and snacks on board were provided by Arriba.
December 12, 2009 --- Holiday Party
Thanks to everyone for pitching in to make a great party! There was a wonderful turn out and everyone had a great time. The white elephant gift exchange was out of control fun! Special thanks to our gracious host Dan H, Your awesome DAN!

Wow! this was a trifecta of Fun!
Our tour guide took us to wine tastings at 4 winerys and lunch overlooking beautiful vineyards. We had dinner and spent the night at the Pechanga Casino, (including some relaxing pool time). The next morning we flew up thousands of feet in a hot air balloon. If you've never experienced this you must join us next time, it was off the hook!
